Professor Shi Yinhong from Renmin University of China——

U.S. Posture towards China and China's Foreign Relations and Strategic Choices

On December 17, 2020, the fifth World Economic and Political Bi-weekly Forum was held as scheduled. Professor Shi Yinhong from Renmin University of China gave a lecture on U.S. Posture towards China and China's Foreign Relations and Strategic Choices. Senior Fellow Yang Yuan, the Director of the Division of International Politics of National Institute for Global Strategy/Institute of World Economics and Politics presided over the forum. Senior Fellow Zhang Yuyan, Chief Expert of NIGS and the Director of IWEP, Senior Fellow Yao Zhizhong, Secretary-General of NIGS, other research fellows, academic staffs, and students of UCASS attended the lecture.

Professor Shi believed that “the United States adopts a broad and fierce confrontation and competition with China, attempting to persuade and urge as many countries as possible to follow up, thereby affecting other important aspects of China’s foreign relations both directly and indirectly. From now to the President-elect’s inauguration in late January next year, Sino-US relations will keep deteriorating. After that, the tension is expected to be partially and limitedly eased."As far as China is concerned, it is necessary to maintain a strategic focus and reduce first- and second-tier opponents currently in action; it is necessary to keep in mind to recognize both opponents and the situation. No matter how powerful the opponents are, they have their own difficulties. " priority-setting according to our situation is crucial to ensure China's long-lasting invincibility." At the end of the lecture, Professor Shi answered questions from the audience.
